Solar Panels
A solar panel is a connection of many solar cell which can be used to generate electricity through photovoltaic effect.
Solar Inverters
Solar inverters convert DC signal to AC signal. There are two main types of inverters: Pure sine wave and modified sine wave.
Pure sine wave is better but more expensive. Most large inverters have inbuilt charge controllers.
We also have inverters that combine inverting with charging in one device. Some inverters are off grid and other are on grid. We also have hybrid inverters.
Solar Charge Controllers
A charge controller connects the solar panel, the battery bank, and the load. Its main function is to prevent the battery from being over charged by the solar panel as well as being over-discharged by the load. Solar charge controllers can either be analogy or digital.
Most charge controllers below 10 A are analog while 10 A and above are digital. The digital charge controllers can detect the voltage connected to it.
Inverters exists indifferent voltages and current ratings i.e 5Amp/12V, 10Amp/12V. 15Amp/12V, 20Amp/12V/24V etc.
Solar Batteries
Solar batteries come in different sizes and technologies. We have Lead-acid, Gel, lithium-ion, and much more. Some are maintenance-free while others need regular maintenance. Solar batteries are deep cycles meaning one can withdraw a big percentage of its energy up to 50%.
The main difference solar batteries and car batteries is that car batteries are shallow cycle while solar solar batteries are deep cycle. Again car batteries have smaller terminal plates compared to solar batteries. Solar batteries are sized using C-rating and AmpHour rating as well as voltage.
